You and your puppy have been playing hard all day. He's been great to you and you're finally getting ready for dinner - both of you. You sit down to eat, and open a can of dog food that you got in the supermarket. You put it down for your best friend to eat. Do you really know what is in the can of food?
The truth is that the ingredients found in normal, commercial dog food is more than likely bad for your dog. It is loaded with calories and at best contains very little nutritional value. They often don't carry the proper vitamins or nutrients needed for a growing puppy to continue growing on the dog food alone.
One other aspect of commercial dog food that absolutely nobody ever discusses is the fact that the dog food usually comes in a package that is not signed off on by the government agencies. After the dog food scare in 2006, many people had a public outcry for regulation of where their dog food came from and what kind of enforcement they had behind it. That has since long gone, but the after effects are still widely felt. Unfortunately, most people don't even think about the packages, even though they can be more harmful than the tainted food itself.
If you are interested in quickly feeding your dog some food that not only is nutritious, but will make your dog happy, try starting off with whole foods. Whole wheat based products, brown rice, meats and eggs are all examples of whole foods. If your dog will eat these, they'll be thinking they died and went to heaven. You should always use a standard mix of about 30% protein, and 70% vegetables to help your dog keep enough strength and stamina to be able to enjoy the time you and your dog will have together.
